RANGERS ROUND-UP:

RANGERS ROUND-UP:

Saturday 13 July

RANGERS A v Concord B LOST 3-2

Carrying a couple of injuries into the match, Rangers A started strong and took an early lead after some good passing combinations on a slightly muddy pitch. Rangers went down to 10 men for a short period after Hiro received an elbow to the face resulting in a very bloody nose. From that point on the game was very evenly matched with goals from both teams resulting in 2-2 with about 10 mins remaining. After a strong defensive clearance & subsequent heavy collision with an opposition striker, goalkeeper Ben Bagshaw thankfully recovered to remain in goals. Unfortunately for the boys, a long range shot at goal from Concord managed to find the top of the net with only a few minutes remaining with Rangers unable to find a late equaliser.

RANGERS B v National Sports LOST 2-1
Goal – Dan B

This week Rangers B faced the undefeated National Sports who were sitting on top of the ladder. Our boys came out firing and we matched them for the full 90 minutes. A soft penalty was awarded to the opposition in the first half against one of our full backs who shall remain nameless (referees really should be more lenient on old people) and the score at half time was 1-0. The second half saw Rangers B play their best 2nd half of soccer to date scoring a great goal by Dan B proving once again what can happen when we play the box and pressure the keeper. The boys kept fighting until the final whistle and were very unlucky not to equalize or even win this match. Even though we lost, every player should be proud of our effort.

RANGERS O/35’s v Belmore Hercules LOST 3-2
Goals – Stewart, Akio

Two games this weekend meant it was going to be busy for the older boys. We knew 2 wins would put us in the mix for finals however it wasn’t meant to be. On Saturday we faced an aggressive Belmore team and typical of our season so far we lost a game we really should have taken more from. We dominated most of the fist half and parts of the second but were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline. A great header by Stewart, and a simply amazing (Neymar esq) goal from Akio were the highlights.

Sunday 14 July

RANGERS O/35’s v Burwood LOST 3-2
Goals – Joseph, Bank

Sunday’s game was against another team fighting for finals football. The usual physical but fair game was interrupted by baffling refereeing decision which cost us 2 goals. In the second half, a great cross from Gavin was taken down on the chest and then clinically put away by Joe. A superb volley by Banky (captured on video by Peter) gave us hope but a hard fought game where we deserved more (how many times this season have I said that) ended 2-3 for our second loss is successive days.
