Christmas and New Year are Over – Mardi Gras Is Upon Us

We hope everyone had a fantastic silly season and have now recovered.

2014 is shaping up to be a big year for the Sydney Rangers with Darwin Out Games, two overseas tournaments, Mardi Gras Soccer Tournament and Parade, The Trashes Cricket Fundraiser, and numerous social and fundraiser activities.

We look forward to your continued support and participation this year.

The Build Up Continues to Mardi Gras

Planning is now under way for Mardi Gras participation in Fair Day, Soccer Tournament and the Parade. Volunteers and participants are required for all to make the events successful. Please nominate via the links below.

Fair Day

We are seeking volunteers to help us man our store at fair day. The more the merrier. We want to keep shifts to no more than three hours, so obviously the more that volunteer the shorter the shift. There will be a minimum of two but preferably three volunteers on at anytime to ensure a good social atmosphere and fun day can be had. This is an excellent opportunity for the Club to raise awareness in the community of our activities (who knows we may even get more sponsors and membership deals), gain new members, and actively participate in our community. Please volunteer your time by following this link. If you would like to assist in developing the stall prior to the event please also let us know in the email.
When: Sunday, 9th February 2014 – 10am to 7.30pm
Where: Victoria Park, Camperdown

Register at: The committee.

Soccer Tournament

Saturday 22nd February 2014, sees the 6th Mardi Gras Football Tournament played at the newly resurfaced Bat and Ball Park at Moore Park. The tournament offers both a men’s and women’s competition and players can enter as a whole team or as individuals. This years tournament boasts qualified match officials, all day BBQ and drinks, entertainment and for the very first time a smaller field for kids matches. The Sydney Rangers Football Club encourages all players and supporters to bring their kids (or someone else’s kids) to join in the fun. Depending on final numbers, teams will consist of either 6 or 7 players and players of all skill levels are encouraged to join in the fun.

When: Saturday, 22nd February 2014 – 9.30am to 5pm
Where: Bat and Ball Park, South Dowling St, Moore Park (Due to repair work this venue my change – we will immediately advise however)
Cost: $15 for Sydney Rangers, Flying Bats and Mardi Gras members. $20 for all others.

Register at: Eventbrite

Mardi Gras Parade

We urgently need to get expressions of interest from interested people to participate in the parade. We need a minimum of 50 participants to make it viable. At this time we already have 10 Brazillian dancers volunteering for our Carnivale theme. Entries for participants closes on the 8th of January. If we dont make the numbers by this date, the Sydney Rangers will not place an entry in this years Mardi Gras Parade.
When: Saturday, 1st March 2014 – Evening
Where: Oxford St, Darlinghurst
Cost: $50 per participant.

Winter Competition Registration

Sydney Rangers will commence taking registrations for the Winter Competition from 01 Jan 2014 via MyClubmate. All players need to be full paying financial members of the Sydney Rangers to play in the winter competition. If you intend playing winter 2014 you must login into your Sydney Rangers MyClubmate account and ensure all information is upto date including a photo and that you are paid up and financial with the club as a full fee paying member. This is your opportunity to volunteer to coach, and/or manage team, and advise your preferred playing team and position.

Once you have checked the Sydney Rangers site you will need to login to the Balmain and Districts Football Club MyClubmate and ensure the data is properly reflected in your account. The registration fees this year are $395 and will be required to be paid in full prior to commencement of the season in early March 2014. For those who did not play last season and wish to do so this season, ensure your details are all correct on the Sydney Rangers site and the Committee will transfer your data to Balmain. Just make sure you email the committee to remind us. Lastly make sure you put down under team preferences and notes that you want to play for the Sydney Rangers teams.

Those who think they may have an issue in achieving this amount in can organise through the Treasurer, Paul via committee to participate in a registration payment saving scheme of which you can provide $50/week directly into our account for 8 weeks to ensure payment is made at the required date. The email link above provides a template for you to complete to participate.

This season we will again be running three teams, an over 35, and all age A and B. This season Billy Kennedy will be Coach and Manager of the over 35 team, Dan Lord will Manage the B team with Ben Bagshaw as Coach. The A team final management line up will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

The Midnight Shift

Midnight Shift Membership

The Midnight Shift Night Club have sponsored the Sydney Rangers for a number of years, and as a result of our close association have now agreed to give membership to the Midnight Shift to all financial members of our club.

You will then get 10% off all drink purchases and discounts and special event invitations only available to Midnight Shift Members. These benefits are in addition to the already existing deals supplied to Sydney Rangers members. Those members that are currently financial should receive further details in the immediate future in regards to your cards.

Urgent and Final Call for Expressions of Interest for Mardi Gras Parade

Darwin Outgames

We have enough for a team in the 7 A-Side competition. Sydney Rangers will be participating at the Darwin Outgames with Akio managing the team. Akio is already looking into accommodation to reduce costs for players with the event currently slated for the entire week of 10-16 May

The current list of players are:

If your wish to volunteer to play please email us.

Registrations with Darwin Outgames can be made here.

Winter League Competition and Social Soccer and Summer 5 A-Side

This year the club will be using these events to assist in training and selection/grading of players for the winter competition.

Those intending playing competition need to start participating in the social sessions to ensure their fitness and skill for the winter competition are improved prior to the commencement of the season. This opportunity will also allow team managers to start prepping their teams to enable a successful competition.

Sydney Rangers intend having an All Age A and B team again this season as well as an over 35, which is the same as last year, though we expect with our new players this year, and others moving on, that the players in the teams will change this year. In the end it is about providing a competitive team for the league and providing a fun, friendly, and fit group to attempt to gain the premierships.

Mardi Gras Volley Ball Tournament

Sydney Rangers would like to put a team into the Freezone Volleyball competition on the 15 Feb 14 at Homebush. Cost is $35 per player + $25 if not a Member of State Volleyball NSW or your own state association.

Those interested in playing please email Dan. Entries close to Dan by 30 Jan so that he can submit the following day to Freezone.
